ABOUT ACACIA
The acacia tree had been brought form North America to Europe, together with
many other plant species, in 1601 by J. Robin, the French king’s principal gardener. Spreading of acacia was spectacular, particularly in Hungary.
Today, acacia occupies an area amounting to 20 % of all Hungarian forests. No other European country can boast about more acacia forests (345,000 hectares) than Hungary. No wonder that in lumber trade circles acacia is being considered as the typical Hungarian lumber. Acacia trees prefer to be exposed to warmth and grow very well on sandy soils blessed by a good nutrient potential. However, on loose soil poor in nutrients – in Hungary acacia grows mainly under such conditions – acacia trees develop into very hard lumber much preferred as a very durable material.
Due to said excellent properties (durable, resistant, natural, chemical-free, recyclable) acacia lumber is widely preferred in and held suitable for organic cultivation as well as in using as a substitute of tropical hardwood when it comes to manufacturing products requiring such grade of lumber.

Our company, the DUNAKER llc. is engaged in manufacturing and supplying acacia (Robinia, locust-tree) lumber products since 1995 all over Europe. Initially we manufactured different (traditional, split, quadratic, cylindrical) types of vineyard trellis support, later we expanded our range of products to utilize the superior natural properties of acacia lumber. We took up the production of sanded, sapwood-worked and circular-cut posts and poles as well as of fencing material used in farming and of profiled worked panels for use mainly in covering the balcony, etc. in buildings. Our newest acacia products are the TÜV-certified PUMI playground equipment family. |
Nowadays the progress in nature preservation and the protection of the environment further stimulates the expansion on the acacia lumber market. Our customers are increasingly aware of the fact that acacia lumber does not contain chemicals while being strong, hard and durable. As sustainable economy with our renewed assets is important for our company, as well, we also deliver our products with FSC certification since 2004.
… the living material – ACACIA
- naturally durable, it is not necessary to treat it chemically
- as the chemical substances damaging the environment do not wash out of it, it is excellent for biological plant cultivation
- in Europe it is found in Hungary in the largest quantities, you can use its wood instead of tropical hardwood
- suitably resistant, spares the machines working on the vine-plantations
- it does not mediate the winter frost-effect into the soil
- excellent resistance to fungus and to insects
- it resists environmental as well as climatic exposure
- its disposal is costless
- of course grown acacia trees can be slightly curved, which can be corrected with sawing
- after removing of bark the sapwood (external part) will be brown
- exposure to rain and sunlight can curve unsuitably stored (covered, bundled) stakes and posts
- in the barked wood small lengthwise splits can occur, which do no affect solidity
